1959 Land Rover Series 2. A great opportunity to own an appreciating classic Land Rover. V5C Present and in my name. Original Registration 173 CYD (Sid). 9 Previous Owners in 57 Years. There are only about 54 of this year and model registered in Britain and on the road. There is no history with this vehicle as it was lost. This Land Rover has recently been recommissioned.
Having owned a couple of these Land Rovers before it is my opinion that people either like the vehicle freshly painted or people like the as is appearance as it represents the vehicles history. I have chosen to leave the body work for the new owner to decide. The chassis has been waxoyled and the rear cross member was replaced many years before my ownership. The chassis is solid and one of the best I have seen on a Land Rover of this age.
The bulkhead is also solid with no previous repairs. The various things I have had done include. The differential oils have been changed along with the gearbox oil.The engine has had an oil and filter change. New Distributer and rotor arm. Days of work spent on the wiring. 2 New fully glazed doors.
New temperature gauge (needs calibrating). Various switches including a push button start. I have put the vehicle through an MOT for peace of mind and it failed on a faulty indicator and nearside front brake cylinders which were weeping. Both faults have been rectified.Although the vehicle is MOT exempt it is still wise to MOT it in order to justify its road worthiness to any law enforcement officer that may choose to stop you. This Land Rover is a great starting point for an enthusiast as it has a solid chassis, good engine and gearbox and is running and driving. That way it can still be enjoyed and worked on at the same time. With everything being said it is an old Land Rover which will need tinkering and continual maintenance. It has bumps, dents and other wear associated with a vehicle of its age and design.
There will be things that will develop with use so please dont expect a show vehicle. All 4 tyres have some side wall crazing. Top of the radiator has a small weep from an old repair. If you want to keep the original it will require brazing. There are aftermarket radiators available but they look quite different to the original. If you are serious about the vehicle I suggest that you get in contact and come and have a look for your selves. There is a boot full of spares and old parts which come with the vehicle. If you have any questions please get in contact.
Viewings will be evening only and in South Chard (TA20) where the vehicle is located. Please no time wasters and tyre kickers.Im not in a hurry to sell so please no silly offers.
