Land Rover Series 3 Pick Up Truck
I have been considering letting this Land Rover go for a while. It had been laid up for several years by the previous owner to me, hence very little mot history since 2006, but he did, have it tested (only just scraped through), prior to sale when I bought it.

I paid to have it trailered home and I commenced the long list of work to improve it and make it reliable. I used the Land Rover very little, but improved it no end and in 2016 it passed its mot without problem. Since then I have replaced more parts, but only covered 24 miles. It runs well, I regularly turn the engine over and this morning ran it up and out of its carport. It was supplied new by MANN EGERTON & Co LTD, BROADWAY, LEIGH ON SEA, ESSEX, to the first owner SIMMONDS WOODWORM AND DRY ROT CONTROL LTD.

Who kept it for several years and another note in its history was when the Diesel engine was changed for a petrol 2286 standard 3 bearing military engine. That was done in 1993. That engine is still in situ. The information being from an extract from the 30 or so pages of its history from DVLA. The cab is a deluxe model with headlining still original, the truck cab being in excellent condition. The chassis is sound, original with number on front dumb iron, with minimal weld repairs. Clutch , gearbox, Drive chain all work as they should.

The rear bed has been altered and is not original. The Land Rover I believe left the factory as a chassis cab. What was on the back, I have no idea.

Work carried out in last 4 years, but not in date or sequence order. New fuel tank fitted (ex Blanchard). New fuel tank sender unit (ex Blanchard). New pair of front leaf springs and bolts fitted. New top, bottom and bypass hoses fitted.

New fuel lift pump fitted. New genuine part heater hoses fitted.

Cooling system flushed and fresh antifreeze added. Engine oil and filter changed. Points, plugs checked / replaced. Tap pets checked / adjusted. New galvanised front bumper and bolts fitted.

Chassis repaired in 2 locations. Rear body removed, new sub frame made to lower the platform height. All new timber decking on rear bed. Rear lights re positioned and new rubberlite lens. Wiring from under bonnet to rear lights all renewed, inc, towing electrics. New battery cables, plus battery isolator fitted. One door top changed for good used item.

New gearbox and engine mountings fitted. Exhaust manifold broken studs renewed. Fabricated rear wheel mud shields and bespoke Land Rover mud flaps fitted.

Steering idler checked out and filled with correct oil. All other oil levels checked, topped up and replaced where required.

New bonnet hinge bushes and rubber buffers fitted. Full brake check , clean, free off and adjust on completion. Gearbox gear lever changed (came off in my hand, as they can do). New clutch master cylinder fitted. Air filter cleaned and correct fresh oil fitted.

New o/ s under wing guard fitted. Good used steering box cover fitted.

New pair of wiper blades and arms fitted. New alternator drive belt fitted. One rear leaf spring removed, dismantled, cleaned, greased and re fitted. Was originally on white weller 8 spoke wheels, with very old tyres. I replaced them with later Defender standard tubeless rims, fitted with Roadstone 235/85 tyres, the spare being a Michelin 750.

There is more, but time is limiting. In conclusion, this is I feel an unusual and original (apart from the back bed) series 3 and should be restored to original, which was the route I was taking before other commitments took priority. As for the back bed, I have nothing to go on. The steel frame was fabricated by the previous owner, but improved by me with the new subframe and timber.

Its a tidy vehicle, nice to drive. Corrosion wise, one footwell is corroded, but on last 3 mot testes not considered a problem. It needs a repaint, which I was working towards, but never got it done.

It has the original deluxe cab trim, which is quite rare and the best original truck cab top you will find, unrestored. It is taxed and insured, so any inspection or road test is not a problem and for peace of mind for the next owner / custodian, I took it for an mot test on 21 st, June and it passed without advisory. Last mot was on 4/7/2016 and it has only covered 29 miles In almost 2 years.

As for price, I dont know where to pitch it, so have placed it just above what it stands me at excluding any labour / time. Tea, coffee and biscuits are free. Always ready to chat about Land Rovers. The present recorded mileage is 67,078 (not guaranteed). I hope the Land Rover finds a new owner, who can continue where I left off and restore it to original spec, as it deserves. To clarify, the body / cab chassis running gear is all correct spec, factory supplied, but the rear tray back is not original, as stated above.
