Land Rover Series 3 Gearbox and Toro Overdrive Suffix D Factory Rebuilt
Land Rover Series 3, suffix D, 4 speed gearbox and Toro overdrive. This came to me in a joblot of parts from a failed restoration. The previous owner (he bought the vehicle off his brother, who had bought it off his dad) said mechanically the box/overdrive all worked as it should when he parked it up due to MOT failure. It was taken off the road in 2010 with an indicated 87492 miles on the clock. The factory rebuild plate on the bell housing gives the following numbers, Serial number A736659/3 Part number MRTC2705R, that is the correct number for a factory rebuilt D suffix box. The serial number on the casing (overstamped as it should be when rebuilt, but still readable) is 95143882. This is the prefix for British Military gearbox used with 4 cylinder engines. The box turns freely and selects all gears. I have not looked inside it.
The factory rebuild plate could have been found in a cracker and screwed to the bell housing. If however I had a Series 3 and not a 2A I would change the oil and put it in mine.
If it is good then its the best box and best rated overdrive combination. Lastly any questions with the phrase " whats the lowest you will take" will be ignored.
