For Sale is RGX849, a 1958 Land Rover Series 1 88 Station Wagon, Ex Ministry of Supply Vehicle. The Ministry of Supply was a Government Department that supplied the British Armed Forces.
This particular 88 is from a Batch of Government owned Series 1's that used the'RGX' Registration and distinguished them. This particular unit would have been bought a factory station wagon, converted by the ministry into it's current stance. The Land Rover is very original and unrestored. Its axles, gearbox and engine are all correct period units. The Land Rover has been barn stored for over 20yrs, the engine is currently out of the vehicle but is still with it.(in the back) The steering is very tight after being laid up but will turn with effort. It has a factory fitted insulating quilt in the passenger seat box.
Body work is generally straight and tidy, the chassis is in good, solid condition but requires a small amount of work to the fuel tank outrigger as this has a couple of holes. The bulkhead is in equally good condition but as with the chassis it requires work, generally around the top rail. The photos below will show this. RGX still retains its'Ministry of Supply' brass plate on the inner wing, stating reg and dates. The 88 is a great base for any enthusiast, it retains a lot of originality and boasts historic status and bags of character. The vehicle can be viewed in NORTHWICH, Cheshire and also where it requires collecting from.
